Midwest Speed Expo...photos by Ted Connolly

Midwest Speed, Inc. is the organizer of the Annual MIDWEST SPEED EXPO Racers Trade Show and Swap Meet held in Springfield, Illinois at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The first event was held in January 2004 and was met with great approval from both vendors and attendees. Nearly 2,000 people attended the first event and were witness to an outstanding event held in a state of the art facility boasting 39,000 sq. ft. of exhibitor space.

The attendance has grown each year with the addition of the United Midwestern Promoters (U.M.P.) late model and modified division banquets held the same weekend in Springfield. With the banquets being held in conjunction with the trade show, Springfield becomes a haven for racers who can and do utilize the services and products of the exhibitors at the Speed Expo. For 2008 U.M.P. will crown all of their national champions which includes multiple classes, meaning a lot of racers from across the U.S. will be in town for the festivities.

Hoosier Tire’s Terry Young, and Midwest Speed, Inc. founder, received the fourth annual Bob Memmer Achievement Award, which honors the memory of UMP DIRTcar Racing’s late founder. The prestigious plaque was presented to Young by Eldora Speedway general manager Larry Boos, who won the award last year.
